NT Rates Concession Backdated Application — Reimbursement and Vendor Creation Form
The Backdating Window
If you were eligible for the NT Concession Scheme but did not claim your rates concession in time, you can backdate your claim — within limits. The statutory rule is that a claim must be lodged within six months of incurring the cost, or within the financial year the cost was incurred, whichever period extends further.
In practice, this means if your rate notice was issued in August 2026, you have until at least 30 June 2027 (the end of the financial year) to claim. If it was issued in January 2027, six months forward takes you to July 2027 — past the end of the financial year — so the six-month window is the one that applies. You always get the benefit of whichever window is longer.
Claims submitted after both windows have elapsed expire under the statutory rules. You cannot backdate across multiple prior financial years.
Getting a Direct Deposit Reimbursement
If you paid your council rates in full before your concession was applied — either because you applied late or the NTCRU had not yet notified your council — you can claim a direct bank reimbursement. The NTCRU will deposit the concession amount straight into your nominated bank account.
To claim the reimbursement, submit these to the NTCRU:
- Your council rate notice showing the charges you paid
- Proof of payment — a receipt, bank statement showing the payment, or a paid stamp from the council
- A completed Vendor Creation Form — this is a DOCX form (67.4 KB) that the NTCRU uses to set up your bank details for the direct deposit
You can email these to [email protected] or post them to GPO Box 3970, Darwin NT 0800.
The Vendor Creation Form
The Vendor Creation Form is not an application for the concession itself — it is a banking details form that tells the NTCRU where to send your reimbursement. You need it when claiming a direct deposit. Complete the required bank-detail fields on the current form from the NT Government portal to avoid delays from an outdated version.

Pro-Rata Concessions for Mid-Year Changes
If you became eligible or purchased a property partway through the rating year, your concession is calculated on a pro-rata basis from the date your NTCS membership was approved or the date of property settlement. The $200 annual rates cap and the garbage concession are both scaled proportionally to the remaining months in the financial year.
What to Do If a Credit Is Missing
If your rate notice arrives without the expected concession credit:
- Call the NTCRU on 1800 777 704 to confirm your membership is active
- Check that the address on your rate notice matches the address the NTCRU has on file
- Contact your local council's rates office to verify they received the NTCRU notification
- Keep making scheduled rate payments while the issue is investigated — withholding payments leads to late payment interest
