WA Safety and Security Rebate for Seniors

A Separate Rebate Most Seniors Miss

Beyond the rates and water concessions that appear on your council and Water Corporation bills, WA Seniors Card holders have access to a dedicated Safety and Security Rebate worth up to $400 for home safety improvements. This rebate is administered through the WA Seniors Card Centre — it is completely separate from the rates concession scheme and does not affect your $750 or $100 rates cap.

The rebate reimburses part of the cost of eligible safety and security items for your primary residence, including deadlocks, window locks, security screens, sensor lights, smoke alarms, and home alarm or CCTV systems. It is intended to help older West Australians stay safely in their homes for longer.

Who Qualifies

You need to hold a valid WA Seniors Card and live in an eligible household in Western Australia. You do not need a Pensioner Concession Card or Commonwealth Seniors Health Card to qualify. This means self-funded retirees with a WA Seniors Card can claim up to $400 per eligible household; the scheme allows one claim per household.

The items must be for your primary residence in Western Australia. Some installations require a licensed contractor, so check the item-specific rules and keep the tax receipt.

How to Claim

The WA Seniors Card Centre manages the rebate application. You can claim the rebate after the work has been completed and paid for:

  1. Collect the tax receipt showing the eligible item or installation; a quote is not proof of purchase
  2. Complete the Safety and Security Rebate claim form (available from the Seniors Card Centre or online)
  3. Submit the form with your receipts to the WA Seniors Card Centre

The rebate is paid directly to you — it is not applied to a bill or account. Contact the WA Seniors Card Centre on 1800 671 233 for the current claim form and any questions about eligible items.

How It Fits with Your Other Concessions

The Safety and Security Rebate sits alongside — not inside — the property rates concession system. Claiming the rebate does not reduce your rates concession entitlement, and your rates concession registration does not automatically register you for the safety rebate. They are separate programs with separate applications.

For WA Seniors Card holders, this means you potentially have access to three streams of help in the same year: the rates concession (25% or 50% depending on whether you also hold a CSHC), the Cost of Living Rebate ($114.20 for singles, $171.30 for couples in 2026/27), and the one-off Safety and Security Rebate (up to $400 per household).

The WA Rates Concessions Guide covers how all three streams interact, including the card pairing strategy that can move you from the 25% rates tier to the full 50% tier.
